The Holidays

The holidays are upon us. What a wonderful time of year. If you are single, like me, it can feel a little less wonderful when you arrive awkwardly solo to Christmas parties or when your great aunt asks for the millionth time if you have a boyfriend yet or how about when you are seated at the kids table because your singleness does not fit in with the even number of table settings at the adult table. This time of year can be a struggle.

Let me encourage you not to focus on the rough moments but instead to focus on the miracle of the birth of Jesus and the beauty of the season. One of my new favorite Christmas songs is “Just Another Christmas” by Laura Story. You can check out the whole song here. The chorus says…

“God I want to feel the wonder of heaven touching earth

Hear a thousand angels sing “Our God is here”

Don’t let there be a moment I miss

Don’t let this be just another Christmas this year”

This song encourages me to look beyond myself. To remember what the season is really about and to look for the moments that make this Christmas special.

So at the Christmas parties we attend, let’s be a blessing and help out the host/hostess most of the night instead of worrying about not having a date. Instead of rolling our eyes and avoiding them, let’s press in and spend some quality time with our great aunt/nosey family member and turn it around on them by asking about their single days or love stories. Let’s be the favorite aunt or older cousin at the kids table by acting like a kid again and seeing Christmas through the joyful eyes of children. While we don’t yet have our special someone, let’s be a special someone to others this season.

Blessings,

Angela
