Man Year

At some point last year, I decided that 2017 was going to be my “man year”. I know, I am embarrassed for even typing that out loud, hahaha. What do I mean by my “man year”? Well, since I will be turning 35, the plan was that I was going to actively up my dating game and start online dating.  I would “put myself out there” and go on more dates and try to focus some of my energy on meeting a great, single, Christian guy. I signed up on match and paid for a month long subscription (You can already see that I was wary of my own plan because a month is the minimum time that one can sign up for. If I was really going to make a go of this, I would have signed up for longer).

In less than 2 weeks, I cancelled the subscription and took down my profile. While some of you may be called to online dating, it was just not for me. I asked my friends and sisters to please remind me of this, the next time I bring up trying to online date. I know that men are supposedly “visual creatures” but I really wish that some of them would have actually read my profile, instead of just contacting me after looking at my photos. The first line of my profile read “If you are not conservative and Christian, please do not waste your time on my profile :)”. I guess that I was being too subtle. Hahaha. I actually had a man tell me that “politics and religion have nothing to do with a romantic relationship”. Umm, what?!

I ended my subscription because it all felt wrong and because God is so good. I “happened” to be reading the passage in my bible about Abraham and Sarah and their desire for a child. And how they didn’t totally trust God, so they did things their own way by having Abraham father a child with Sarah’s servant. This created a whole host of problems for them directly and for the nation of Israel to this day. God eventually blessed them with their son Isaac but in His timing, not theirs. This obviously reminded me of what I already know, I need to totally trust God and focus on Him and not get into trouble doing things my own way. So instead of this being my “man year”, it is my “Jesus is my man year” and I will work on creating a deeper relationship with Him and with that will come everything I could ever hope for.

Blessings,

Angela
