Side Effects 2

I haven’t been in a relationship in forever and I honestly forgot some of the great things about being in one. And since I was recently reminded of those things but am still single, I’ve been thinking of how to recreate some of them for myself, without the relationship.

One of my favorite parts of a new relationship is the excitement. The butterflies, the racing heart, the adventure of falling in love. Since excitement is a feeling and my feelings are created by my thoughts, I need to focus on thoughts that make me feel excited. So what is exciting to me? As of right now, I have at least one trip, concert or sporting event planned for each month of the year and that is beyond exciting! I love having a life full of such awesome experiences and people! When I want to feel excitement, I just have to conjure up thoughts of my amazing plans for the year and that should do the trick.

But what about some of the other relationship feelings that I yearn for? Like feeling wanted, loved and special? This can be a bit trickier. Most people look to others to provide them with these feelings but that is exactly where not to look. People were never meant to completely fulfill those longings. Looking to God is the only way that we can fully have our emotional needs met. When I desire to feel wanted, loved and special, I need to think about and turn to the One who created me and loves me beyond measure. I need to remember and believe that He always wants me, loves me and thinks that I am special. “…As a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you.” Isaiah 62:5.

If you are looking to a relationship or to others to make you feel a certain way, I want to urge you to look to God instead. He can and will provide all that you are seeking.

Blessings,

Angela
