There Is Not Better Than Here

A month from now, I will be on my epic trip to Greece and Italy and I can’t wait! I am so excited and totally guilty of wanting my vacation to hurry up and get here so that I can enjoy myself for two weeks.

Now, there is nothing wrong with being excited about an amazing trip but I’ve been believing that “there” is better than “here” and that’s where the problem lies.

I am not living in this moment but wishing I was in a different one, a “better” one in the future.

The truth is that within each moment we have the exact same capacity for joy and happiness but we don’t usually choose to see it that way. We think that when we go on vacation, lose the weight, have the money, the partner, etc, that we will finally be happy but even when we get there (unless we’ve learned to appreciate and enjoy the present moment), we will still be looking toward some future moment for our joy.

I’m not saying that it doesn’t feel easier to create joy in the moment while laying on a sunny beach in Mykonos but I am saying that that same joy is available to me in this moment, as I sit here at my desk in not so sunny upstate NY.

And since our lives are made up of all of these moments, we can’t wait for something external to change for us to be happy. This present moment is all we have, so stop looking to future moments at the expense of this one. You have full permission to enjoy this moment, right here, right now.

Blessings,

Angela
